Great Work!

I have to preface by admitting I'm totally ignorant of the Beethoven piece (and most classical music for that matter), but I really enjoyed this. Your piano playing is excellent and it really holds the piece together as it changes. The drum programming was great, too (I'm sure this was NOT written by Beethoven), the only suggestion I would make is maybe to try fading the snare and hi-hat rolls in slightly.
I was caught completely off guard when the turntables came in at the end, but in a good way, it kept things exciting. Also I don't usually go for turntable samples, but that is because most people who use them select a single sample and repeat it endlessly while real record scratching is more loose and free-form, which is exactly how this sounded.
I agree with the other reviewer that some more dissonance and distortion would have worked for this piece, but as you have heard my own work you can correctly assume I'd say that for the majority of what I hear on NG.
All in all, the combination of classical melody, electronic beats, sound effects and turntables gave this a cool, surreal type feel. -5

Easily my most positive review I've recieved on any song. Thank you for throwing roses at my feet. I'll keep your suggestions in mind!

Me neither.

So why post it? Seriously, if even the artist doesn't like it why waste everyone's time? Are you trying to make us feel good about ourselves by comparison?

the new remix is up

Not Bad

I liked the feedback noise throughout and the piano and bass, but the guitar could use some work (MORE DISTORTION!), the drums are really the weak point. They sound tiny! Some gated reverb and a bit more volume would really help and you could turn those kick drums up a bit to give it some more punch. -3

My Ears...

Were fucking bleeding, too! Nice work, I've never heard anything quite like it, and I listen to some noise stuff (Merzbow, Bastard Noise, etc). I'm not surprised something like this initially got shot down at newgrounds. I wouldn't say there are too many adventurous listeners here.

Techo is so negative?

I guess you've never been to a rave! But anyway, I thought this was a well done piece and (despite my attendance at drug-fueled dance parties in the past) I really usually don't enjoy techno music. The whole thing was very heavy. Usually techo is a bit too light for me but the rhythm really moved in this one, probably due to the bass drum programming and tempo with which you avoided the usual cliches and created a rhythm that really rocks. The overall melody reminds me of the NES Mega Man games, and that's a compliment. the only suggestion I would make is to add some reverb to the cymbals as they sound a bit flat. Nice ending too. -4

that was a joke. a play on words? no - yes

anyway, thanks :)

Heavy

Parts of this remind me of Godflesh, one of all-time favorite bands. Have you heard them? The distortion on the drumbeat is nice and crunchy, it's too bad the guitar and the beat are competing for the same audio space. That little blast of noise was a nice touch also. I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about when s/he said "really repetitive power chords," s/he is probably not a guitarist. If anything my biggest criticism is that the structure is too loose. Pick just a couple of the best riffs from this and rerecord it and you could have a fucking masterpiece.

russiannin responds:

Thanks a lot.
I've actually never heard of Godflesh, but I'll look them up.
Good advice. I appreciate any criticism I can get.
Thanks for taking the time to rate/review.

I'm trying to be open-minded...

Because this is not really my style of music. But I had to say that the glock (ha) really makes this song! Every one can play a guitar, keep working with the new instrument and you've got something unique. The down-to-earth lyrics aren't bad either and I guess are probably pretty appropriate for this site. The short out sound at the end was cool, also. -4

Dan-Plus-Add responds:

Thanks :) Glad you liked the glockenspiel, I'm trying to add something a bit different to my songs so expect more of that and hopefully other sounds.

Anyway thanks for the review, I appreciate it :D

Great Track

The lo-fi sound works for the piece if you ask me, which you didn't. You might want to try running a limiter/compressor on your voice. Are you using pre-packaged velveeta loops or did you compose that organ part and/or drumbeat yourself? Good sound and great lyrics either way.

Um,

You didn't even spell "psycho" correctly. Why not slow down and put in a little effort?

edtheninja responds:

i spelled pyscho wrong because it was already taken. i'm also making a second version.

I'm Crushed.

I guess a lot of people just didn't get it. I would have slowed down the explosions even more (But the flange on some of them was a little annoying). Good work.

edgemeer responds:

thanks for the listen, and good suggestions... although everything is kinda thrown out the window taste-wise and rules-wise on a piece like this. never really thought on how well it would "do" here, just uploading a piece of the back-catalouge, bit-by-bit, every few days.
